Geocache Description:

This cache honors all branches of the military, but due to my many family members and friends who served in the USAF, I placed this near an airport. Please read long description for more information and history on this area. If heading to cache from air museum and you read hint, notice there are a couple of those along the way. Small camo-ed container. Room only for log and small swag/trackables. Please be sure it’s put back together securely and BYOP for the P&G.

This fourth cache in this series takes you near Bradley International Airport and New England Air Museum. Soon after its establishment, the airfield at Windsor Locks suffered its first fatality. Among those serving there was 24 year-old Lt. Eugene M. Bradley of Antlers, Oklahoma, assigned to the 64th Pursuit Squadron. While piloting in a dogfight training drill, Lt. Bradley's P-40 crashed on August 21, 1941. The Windsor Locks airfield in Lt. Bradley's honor, became Army Air Base, Bradley Field, Connecticut on January 20, 1942. Recently, Connecticut state archaeologists used ground-penetrating radar to pinpoint Lt. Bradley's crash location under the end of current Runway 33. Bradley is Connecticut's busiest commercial airport with 350 daily operations, and the second-busiest airport in New England after Boston's Logan International Airport. Please visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_International_Airport The New England Air Museum is owned and operated by the CT Aeronautical Historical Association, a private, non-profit educational institution organized in 1959. Located at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, the Museum is the largest aviation museum in New England. This educational organization is dedicated to preserving and presenting historically significant aircraft and related artifacts, engaging visitors through high-quality exhibits helping them to understand aviation technology and history, and inspiring students through innovative and hands-on educational programs.
