Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a small series that will introduce fellow cachers to bits and pieces of Broadway history and folklore.

This cache has been placed close to the Lifford Hall (thanks to the Trustees for permission to place it here).

The Lifford Hall which acts as the village hall for Broadway was built as a private theatre in 1915 and is named after Lord Lifford who died in 1913 (paintings of Lord and Lady Lifford hang inside the Hall). It was bequeathed to the village in 1928 and has since been a popular venue for dances, plays, reception, auctions, sales and other social events.

Despite the addition of a kitchen and car park in the 1970s and 1980s respectively the Hall was deteriorating and an Appeal was launched in 1995 to raise funds to refurbish the building and update the facilities. This was completed in January 2000 giving the Hall a new lease of life that sees it as the focus of many village events to this day.

If you follow the main road along out of the village past the cottages and the old telephone exchange you will come to Russell House. Built in 1791 to replace an old inn called The Swan (not to be confused with the current establishment opposite the Lifford Hall!), in 1886 it became the home of Frank Millet, the American artist, who converted the adjoining barn into a studio. He lived here until tragically losing his life as one of the passengers on the Titanic.

Accross the road from Russell House you will be able to see a large house which is Luggershill (now Luggers Hall) which was the home of Sir Alfred Parsons, another famous artist and garden designer.

You are looking for a small disguised nano that has been placed close to the Lifford Hall. You do not need to enter the Hall or it's car park to find the cache.

Please note, that stealth will be needed due to proximity to the main road and that the Lifford Hall Car Park is used quite frequently so beware of any traffic entering or leaving.
