IZVIR PIVKE
Reka ponikalnica Pivka zacne izvirati vzhodno od vasi Zagorje. Izvir se imenuje Pivscica in je glavni ter stalni izvir Pivke. Del vode se iztece v izvir Podstenjska in naprej v reko Reko. V suhem obdobju je struga Pivke med Zagorjem in Prestrankom suha. Pivka potem tece cez Zagorsko polje in Drskovsko polje po ozki soteski, ob kateri je veliko manjsih izvirov. Na Drskovskem polju se ji pridruzi pritok Podlaznice oz. Mlacnice. Potem tece proti Parjam po ozki dolini in del vode se pretaka v izvire pri Parjah. Med Petelinjami in Prestrankom dobi Pivka nekaj pritokov. Od Matenje vasi tece preko Postojnskega polja, kjer dobi pritok Nanoscico. Pivka po sotocju z Nanoscico tece proti vzhodu, nato pa zavije proti severu in ponikne v Postojnsko jamo. Najbolj markantne znacilnosti krasa so prav gotovo kraska polja in presihajoca jezera. Znacilnost pokrajine ob Pivki je poplavni svet. Na posameznih delih se pojavljajo presihajoca jezera. Polnijo in praznijo se in nikoli niso v istih letnih casih enaka. Voda pac vedno najde svojo pot, se bolj pa je skrivnosten njen podzemni tok.

PIVKA SPRING
The underground stream Pivka rises east of the village of Zagorje. The spring is called Pivscica and is a major and constant source of Pivka. Part of the water ends in the spring Podstenjsek and to the Reka river. In the dry period, the Pivka channel between Prestranek and Zagorje is dry. Pivka then runs across the Zagorje field and Drskovce field through a narrow gorge, along which here are many small springs. On Drskovce field tributary Podlaznice or Mlacnice joins it. Then it runs towards Parje through a narrow valley and part of the water flows into the springs near Parje. Between Petelinje and Prestranek the river Pivka gets some tributaries. From Matenja vas it runs through the Postojna field, where it gets Nanoscica tributary. Pivka with the confluence of Nanoscica flows east, then turns north and disappears underground into the cave. The most striking features of karst are certainly karst fields and intermittent lakes. Feature of the landscape along the Pivka is the flood area. At certain parts intermittent lakes appear. They fill and empty, and are never the same in the same season. But water always finds its way; even more mysterious is its underground course.
