Geocache Description:

Li'l old playground cache. Wash your hands if you go on the playground structure.

NOTE: The arsenic filled play structure has since been removed by the city.

There is nothing particularly 'sciencey' about this place, save the fact that the playground structure is full of.......arsenic.

Used as a preservative of lumber, arsenic was also used to preserve bodies for shipment home during the civil war. In graveyards that have a high concentration of civil war casualties, arsenic has seeped into the ground water, and caused residents to show telltale signs of chronic arsenic poisoning- skin lesions, numbness in extremities, and lethargy.

While it is less common to used arsenic to treat wood, there are plenty of older structures that still contain it- don't let the kids chew on the playground equipment!
