Geocache Description:

The Barrow Blitz was the bombings of Barrow-in-Furness which primarily took place between 3rd-10th May 1941.

This series aims to bring Geocachers to locations which had something to do with the Barrow Blitz.
Please respect these locations, and take a moment to think of the terrible but fascinating story behind these locations.

This cache is located very close to the spot in which one of the first bombs fell; Hawcoat Lane on May 3rd 1941...

The first night of the Barrow Blitz saw a series of land mines and high explosive bombs dropped over the Hawcoat-Newbarns area causing extensive damage to Hawcoat Lane-Undergreens Road area; Hill Road; the Armadale Hotel on Abbey Road near St Paul’s Church; the top of Fairfield Lane and the lower part of Hollow Lane.

83 Barrovians died during The Barrow Blitz, which isn't even 1% of the total death toll for the whole country.

The cache is a micro aliminium container, with room only for a log sheet... So you'll have to bring your own pen/pencil.
