This area was once zoned for fur farms by the RM of North Kildonan. In 1956, there were only 30 homes on McIvor Avenue between Henderson Highway and Raleigh Street and out of those 30 homes, 7 had active mink farms.
When I was a little kid in the 1970s, I recall walking past here with my cousin who lived down the street. As we walked by she pointed to the house with numerous out buildings and said "That's a mink farm." I found it fascinating because I never heard of a mink farm before. To this day, I drive by here and say, "There's the mink farm."
