Geocache Description:

We thought some of you would like to visit a little history while you're in the area. Only 3 miles off the well traveled power trail are two very old Charcoal Kilns! During the 1870s, there was a lot of mining happening in Nevada. The lead-silver smelters needed charcoal to keep these operations running. Here you will see two kilns still in remarkably good condition. The ovens were constructed in a unique beehive shape and it was from these ovens that the wood contractors turned Pinyon trees into charcoal and then would sell it to the smelters in the nearby town of Tybo

The road to this cache/kiln is probably not for a regular rental car. The road is a bit sandy, and requires somewhat high clearance due to foliage and a ridge in the middle of the road. Also the trees overtake what is barely a road and requires a lot of maneuvering to get through. We made it just fine in a 2WD Toyota Tacoma, however it was very tight in places. I wouldn't take the wife's Civic to this one. We have marked the route to this cache with 3 other caches...
We hope you enjoy this little adventure!
