Geocache Description:

A small click & lock box whose placement has been inspired by the green woodworking undertaken by staff and volunteers at Mere Sands Wood.

The woodland here is managed for the benefit of its wildlife, wildflowers and fungi, so sometimes you will see trees being felled. Some are cut up and sold as fuel, some is turned into charcoal and some is left where it falls to provide shelter for small animals and invertebrates and, as it rots, a home for fungus. Some wood, though, has been used as part of "green woodworking" to create rustic items such as benches, bird and bat boxes - you can find examples on sale in the visitor centre if you'd like to take a souvenir home.

Enjoy the cache, and enjoy your time in the greenwood.
