A series of caches, visiting old mine works around Gwydyr Forest. Suitable footwear and clothing for time of year are required and the essential Camera and picnic.
The aims of this series is to find the caches, record and keep additional information found in caches.
The cache walk follows the Mine trail that is marked RED with crossed pick and hammer.
Its approx. 3.6 Km and about 1 and a half hours.
Please be aware that part of the footpath is shared with cycles and also you cross a forestry road.

Vale of Conwy Mill.
The ore was separated from the waste rock at the mill, powered by a large water wheel. The crusher house and wheel pit are well-preserved.
The rock and ore which had been roughly broken with hammers, was tipped into a yard near the crusher house.
Its was then barrowed to upper floor and tipped into hoppers that released a controlled amount of material onto the crusher rollers.
The finely crushed mixture was collected from beneath the rollers and barrowed to the jiggers – shaking tables were the heavier lead ore moved less distance than the lighter waste
The ore was mixed with water and fed through a buddle, a gently sloping conical table, for a final separation. As the mixture slowly washed down the table the heavier ore settled near the top whilst the waste settled lower down.
The ore was packed into barrels and taken to Trefriw wharf to be shipped off for smelting.

Stand in the middle of the Buddle( circle ), turn around 3 times anti - clockwise!
If the mill is at 12 o'clock then the cache is at 2 o'clock
