MEGA SA 2012 - Night Song Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Tartan_Terror: Following the "needs maintenance" log I paid a daylight visit to the site. It's time to archive this cache because in my opinion the area is no longer safe after dark. I found that the first reflector was missing, and the final container was missing in toto. Over and above this, there was evidence of "cable stripping activities" at GZ, and muggles camped within 50m toward the east.

Geocache Description:

MEGA South Africa 2012 - The cache has been placed for the duration of South Africa's first Mega Event. This cache will remain after the Mega to be enjoyed by all geocachers. The cache is unfortunately beyond walking distance from the main Event Venue.

Pack your torch and take a buddy caching after the sun has set. It is best attempted after sunset, and requires a good flashlight with a white colour light. It is strongly recommended to do with a buddy.

A cache inspired by "Geo936" and "Pannie&Medusae".

Enter the area from "van Ryneveld Ave" at S25 49.238 E028 14.195 and take the gravel road in a NW direction until you reach the suggested parking place.

I intended to place the instructions at Stage 1, but rather opted to provide them on listing in order to eliminate problems reading instructions in the dark:

STEP 1
Park and proceed on foot to Stage 1 where you need to find a small rectangular container that is hidden under some rocks at the base of a large boulder. You should find a "DEVICE" in the container. Take the device with you, but ensure that you retain the coordinates of this location so that you can return later to replace the device.

STEP 2
Set off toward stage 2 and look for a yellow reflector ahead of you, beyond stage 2 at approximately knee height. Exercise caution and beware of the shallow hole close to stage 1; coordinates are provided for this HAZARD. Continue walking toward the reflector. When you approach close to the reflector, start looking for a second yellow reflector (also at knee height) approximately 90 degrees to your LEFT at a range of approximately 30m. Once you have identified the second reflector turn and walk toward it.

STEP 3
Once you arrive at this second reflector stop and use the "DEVICE". The cache is hidden under a few small rocks at the base of a large boulder like outcrop, a few metres beyond the second reflector.

IMPORTANT
1. Note that on both legs of this multi cache you should not walk more than 60 metres per leg.

2. Exercise caution, especially when moving rocks; this is Africa. Snakes, scorpions and spiders share the outdoors with us.

3. The reflectors will illuminate a Bright Yellow sector on boresight and Dimmer Red sectors to either side of the yellow sector. Your objective is to enter the Yellow sector and then remain in that sector. Note that the sectors are purposely narrow. Please do not tamper as it could spoil it for future cachers.

4. Ensure that you replace the "DEVICE" and hide both containers exactly as and where you found them.

5. A strong white light is required. The headlamp type is preferable, and have a spare flashlight and batteries.

6. Difficulty & Terrain ratings have been selected commensurate with effect of darkness.
