The walk to the caches is along well defined forest footpaths, taking in waterfalls and old mines that have been capped and made safe.
There is NO need to go off the path into areas that are fenced off or look unsafe.
Mining has been going on in the area for hundreds if not thousands of years and there is alot of evidence if you care to look.
There are many tunnels and shaft under your feet and it was possible to walk from Cyffty Mine via Llanrwst mine right across to Parc Mine, however there have been some rock falls and the occasional hole in the floor descending many feet.
Look out belowwwww.
The aims of this series is to find the caches, record and keep additional information found in caches.
The cache walk follows the Mine trail that is marked RED with crossed pick and hammer.
Its approx. 3.6 Km and about 1 and a half hours.
Please be aware that part of the footpath is shared with cycles and also you cross a forestry road.

Hafna Mill.
Of all the mine mill sites found within the Gwydryr Forest Park, Hafna is unique in having its own smelt house, built in the 1880s.
The remains of the smelt house and adjacent blowing house can been seen behind the slime pit on the third floor level of the mill. The blower house once housed a pair of mechanically operated bellows that generated air via pipes from the smelting hearth, located beneath the flue arch. The smelter would have been a relatively simple affair, probably a reverbatory furnace of Flintshire type.
Ore and fuel would be mixed together and racked in the furnace, effectively roasting the ore. As the temperature was increased the molten metal would flow into the bottom of the furnace, from were it was tapped.
