Geocache Description:

End of the Main Trunk Line

The very start of the Gisborne rail link, where freight was once off-loaded from coastal freighters, over the now disused city rail bridge and sent south to Napier and beyond. Even the restored steam locomotive WA165 does not get to cross this rail bridge any more. Used by the occasional fisherman, kids jumping into the river for a summer swim or as a short-cut by pedestrians or night clubbers heading to the next "hot spot" with the odd splash in the night!

The Cache:

The cache is a metal Eclipse Mints tin that is well camouflaged. Smaller than a 200ml sistema container but larger than a Micro container. At time of placing the cache it contained a write-in-the-rain log, pencil and "My Traveling 2 Cents" geocoin. This is a high muggle area so think carefully about leaving a geocoin. Please replace the cache in exactly the same position thank you.

To find the Cache:

Once you have parked your vehicle, maybe enjoyed a coffee, world famous Gisborne Chardonnay or locally brewed beer at one of the many nearby cafes you will need to walk across the railway bridge to the city side of the river and carefully view the art work completed by Graeme Mudge on the Reads Quay Substation.

Answer the following questions:

A=_______ Date on Gisborne Harbour Board Building

B=_______ Date on Borough Council Chambers

C=_______ Date on Post Office

D=_______ Number of Railway bridge supports totally surrounded by water

E= 6 Number of Gladstone Road bridge supports totally surrounded by water

(A+B+C)/D =(answer expressed in:) ____(1,000's) + ____(100's) + ____(10's) + ____(1's) = F= __

F=__E6 Is the number of railway sleepers to count to find the cache.

(For example, if the answer to questions A,B,C and D is 1121, this number would be 1+1+2+1=5, so F=5. As we know F=5 and E=6, thus the answer to our example would be 56 railway sleepers to count to find the cache.)

The above picture shows Li standing on the exact railway sleeper that you need to start counting from.

The Terrain Rating:

The location of the cache is on a disused railway bridge which you will walk over, so children will need to be supervised and even adults will need to watch their step.
