The Twelve Caesars
This series is dedicated to the Twelve Caesars of the Roman Empire. They didn’t always have staying power as rulers but 2000 years have past and half of these guys are house-hold names.
Most of the following information is taken from the work of Suetonius, who’s biography of Julius Caesar and the first eleven Emperors of the Roman Empire was written in 121 AD.
Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus
Tenth Emperor of the Roman Empire
December 39 – September 81
Titus was the first Roman Emperor to succeed his father. He was a talented general in Germany, Britain and Jerusalem. As Emperor he proclaimed, “A wasted day is one in which I could grant no favors”. He was respected for his efforts to ease suffering during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, a great fire in Rome and a plague. He is presumed to have been poisoned by his brother Domition after only 2 years on the throne.
First To Find may claim a Brass Replica Roman coin.
