Canada Goose - An Island Spirit Legacy.
The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down past the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.
All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, there is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation unless otherwise noted.
Canada Goose
The Canada Goose, native to North America, is a very recognizable bird. But can you tell which of about 11 different sub-species of Canada Goose you are looking at? Could it be the 2kg Cackling Canada Goose or the Giant Canada Goose of up to about 8kg? Well, in truth, it would not be the Giant. Of the 11 sub-species we will generally only see the Cackling or the Vancouver sub-species here in the Cowichan Valley. But not only might you see these two sub-species, it is quite possible that you could see the exact same couple year after year. You see, a Canada Goose chooses a mate for life and also return to the same nest area year after year.
