Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches. All the caches are placed close to footpaths which are all clearly visible.

Most of the series are placed on land that has been reclaimed from former industrial sites around the Brookside / Stanhill area of Oswaldtwistle. The series can all be done on a circular walk which takes about an hour. Please respect the natural areas by sticking to the footpaths. All the caches are placed within 3 or 4 metres of footpaths. There have been a large amount of native trees planted in these areas as part of a major re-generation of this former industrial area, including Oak, Pine and Alder and there is an abundance of wildlife including bats, rabbits and deer. This cache is close to an old air vent / access shaft to the old Town Bent pit. This was known by local children as Devil’s Drop. All that is visible of it now is a small concrete cap in the field close to the cache site. The path that this cache is placed on can get overgrown and flooded so access is no longer easy.
