The Sparwood Mural Walk Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

KinderKensDaughter: I am sad to archive this one, but 4 out of 10 of the Murals are now missing, and something seems wrong with the coordinates I entered. Thanks to all that found it, tried to find it, and those that let me know it wasn't working. Happy caching.

BACKGROUND ON THE MURALS: In 1989 the Sparwood Arts Council, the Chamber of Commerce and the people of Sparwood came together to preserve our vanishing Heritage. In the 60's the original town site of Michel and Natal were relocated to Sparwood. the Sparwood Mural Walk began with the desire to reproduce scenes of the old town sites and it's people. The first 3 murals were painted by the renowned mural artist Dan Sawatsky of Chemanius BC, with the generous support of the District of Sparwood, the Sparwood Business Community, Go BC and the people of Sparwood.
In 1995 the Sparwood Arts Council decided that the project should be a mentorship program combining the talents of our local artists and the talents of our students. A youth employment program was initiated with the support of the District of Sparwood and Human Resources Development Canada, as well as numerous other generous sponsors. This program has grown in momentum. It has become a high energy project that not only gives our artists good exposure, but it also gives Sparwood a marketable commodity.
This text was taken from the SPARWOOD MURAL brochure, which can be obtained from the local Visitor info booth.
NOTE: Some of the original murals described in the brochure have been removed. (hence why I had to make my own map for this cache).
Also, as reported recently (April 2012) in The Free Press a recent decision has been made to let the murals 'weather away'.
"During the branding process in 2010 the Branding Committee decided that the current murals in Sparwood are a feature of interest but they lack consistency and continuity with most other facets of Sparwood’s new brand. In May of 2010, Council adopted a recommendation from the Branding Committee to discontinue the focus on the murals and let them retreat organically."
