The highest point on the Orkney Mainland with fabulous views all round! Please take care when retrieving and replacing this cache as it can be quite busy with visitors and technicians serving the nearby radio masts. It is also necessary to make sure the cache is jammed in to ensure it is not blown away! A fabulous place to visit at night when the sky is clear.
If you have time please descend to the cache Elaine located near the Wideford Cairn, which is built into the north-western slope of Wideford Hill. It is about 328 feet above sea-level and is a Maeshowe-type cairn dating from around 3,000 BC. This cache is best achieved as part of a fine walk from Kirkwall to the summit of Wideford Hill taking in the caches at Muddisdale, Muddisdale Walk, 3 Degrees West and Caldale View. Please ensure you have adequate clothing if you decide to walk from Kirkwall to the summit of Wideford Hill as weather conditions can change very quickly! The cache is a small plastic box.
