Geocache Description:

Miraculously, I managed to get the first-to-find on the Periodic Table of the Elements Challenge. I owe a great debt to all the cachers who have hidden caches with names containing elements, so I thought I could add to my karma by hiding a few more of my own.

I have a secret to tell. I'm really only half American. My mom was born north of the border, in Ontario. My maternal grandmother grew up in Cobalt, Ontario, which in 2001 was named "Ontario's Most Historic Town" by a panel of judges on the TV Ontario program Studio 2. How does a town become "most historic," anyway? "Historic" doesn't really seem like a relative term to me. Either something is historic or it isn't. Come to think of it, all cities are "historic," in that they possess history. I think what that panel of judges meant to say was that Cobalt is "the Ontario town with the most interesting history." Although that isn't quite as snappy. Hey, speaking of my Canadian heritage, I have a great-great-grandfather who was a semi-famous lumberjack named Mountain Jack Thomson. True story.

...What's that, you say? You want to know about cobalt the element, not random trivia related to my Canadian heritage? Well, all you need to know about cobalt is that it is often used (along with titanium) for orthopedic implants that do not wear down over time. So there.
