PL Jeżdżąc naszymi wspaniałymi kolejami państwowymi pewnie wielokrotnie zwróciliście uwagę na budynki dworców kolejowych. Stan niektórych woła o pomstę do nieba, a rozmach innych zapiera dech w piersiach. Opisywany przeze mnie obiekt to budynek dworca kolejowego w Bieruniu Nowym. A co w nim takiego rewelacyjnego? Otóż jest to najstarszy budynek znajdujący się w Bieruniu. Wybudowano go w 1859 roku wraz z uruchomieniem linii kolejowej do Mysłowic i od tamtego momentu jego wygląd się nie zmienił. Do 1922 roku pełnił on również funkcję posterunku celnego oraz placówki Grenzschutzu (ostatni przystanek przed granicą galicyjską). Po 1922 roku stacja straciła na znaczeniu.
Z racji braku funduszy na remont do 2020 roku budynek popadał w ruinę. Jednak w końcu doczekał się gruntownej modernizacji i już od stycznia 2022 roku będzie pełnił wraz z okolicznym terenem funkcję nowoczesnego centrum przesiadkowego.
