This cache has been placed to mark the location of Poynton’s original railway station at Midway. The cache can be accessed from London Road South via Lostock Road by using the footpath under the railway bridge (muddy and mind your head!) or for those wanting a longer walk by following the footpath from Lostock Hall Road off Chester Road.
When the Macclesfield Branch of the Manchester and Birmingham railway was opened on 24 November 1845 the station was constructed just to the South of the brook. The station remained in use until the new station was opened in it’s current location on 1 August 1887. The Midway station was demolished on 21 October 1887 and little remains of it now, although the white house to the east of the railway is Old Station House. More information on the railway in Poynton is available in Poynton A Coalmining Village; social history, transport and industry 1700 – 1939 by W. H. Shercliff, D.A. Kitching and J.M. Ryan. Any errors in extracting information from this are mine! The cache is a small box with room for a few swapables and trackables. Please hide the cache carefully for the next cacher
