Joseph Doyle was one of the founders and early residents of Fort Pueblo. He was also a member of the group that started the Hardscrabble community; he went to New Mexico for a while and later built a large ranch south of Pueblo where he lived with his wife, Maria de la Cruz "Cruzita" Suaso, and their children. He was elected a Huerfano County commissioner and a Colorado State legislator.
