Olympic Odyssey: ARES Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

El Fartero: La Vaca Verde and I no longer plan to maintain this series, and will archive stages that go missing, as appears to be the case here.

The Mt Olympus bonus stage is still out there, and we are filling in the missing pieces so that it can still be found using the caches in the series that still remain.

Thanks to all who searched. Hope you had fun.

Geocache Description:

ARES, the scorned and rejected son of Zeus and Hera, is the god of war, but more specifically, the god of the blood and gore of battle. His companions in combat, Deimos (terror) and Phobos (fear), are also his children, the issue of his adulterous liason with Aphrodite, goddess of desire and beauty.

Find the Shield of Ares abandoned on a rocky outcropping above the field of battle, now serene beneath the sheltering sky.

Team El Fartero presents this tribute to the mythological deities of the ancient world. They may make poor role models, but their stories are never dull and will never grow old. Take the journey and discover the Spirits that may still lurk in the moonlit wilderness, or if not there, at your local Cinema chain!

The Olympic Odyssey consists of 12 caches, each individually crafted and stocked in tribute to their divine inspiration. It is the product of many weeks of planning and preparation, and will bring an afternoon of surprise and adventure to the geocacher who seeks them. Ten of them contain a coordinate which will lead you to Mount Olympus, where the gods have prepared a fitting cornocopia to reward your valor and heroism.

Completion of the series will take about 5 hours, and requires 5 miles of hiking, with some climbing and bushwhacking. Start your journey at the posted Parking Coordinates, where you can enjoy a picnic before beginning your quest.
