So I guess I never realized it, but I am one of SlowPokeMaddy’s favorite geocachers. I had met her in the field one or twice, and I always try to get a laugh out of her when I can (she has such a great giggle). And apparently she and Dad (TheDonnerparty) had followed me around from cache to cache on a few occasions. But I didn’t realize that I had become one of her favorites until ccrider2000 and I got started on “Maddy’s Multi” a while back, where she wrote that she hoped I would get FTF.
Well, about a month ago, I needed a few subs for my volleyball team, and it ended up that c-fire, TheDonnerparty, and I were playing our hearts out on a Friday night at HotShots (StaceyCakes was playing at the same time on the next court over). My dear wife and I had brought Army_Boy with us on the hunch that TheDonnerparty would be brining SlowPokeMaddy, and sure enough, the two of them sat there, ignoring each other the whole time (what can you expect from 7 year olds?)!!!
So, match over (we won!), we headed to the bar for some adult beverages and some food, and I got talking to SlowPokeMaddy as I usually do. Out of the blue, c-fire hands me a new cache container. “Here, I’m testing out this new paint, go hide this for me and we’ll see how it holds up to the elements”. I don’t know how the man is going to ever make money at his geostore if he keeps giving away stuff for free!!! Anyway, further conversation with SlowPokeMaddy ensued, and I decided that the new cache would be put out in her honor. Since her favorite color is purple, I will be trying a different cache container than the one c-fire gave to me, at least at the start until I can determine if it is waterproof enough. If it is waterproof enough, I’ll leave it as is; if not, it will be changed out with the c-fire container.
As mentioned above, there is some poison ivy in the area – both the ground cover type on your very short walk to the hide area, as well as the vining type just above your head at the cache spot. Please use caution – you should be able to avoid this noxious plant if you take it slow and look around carefully.
This is not an additional logging requirement, but a simple request – if you are an adult (i.e. if you are old enough to drive yourself to the cache), please consider allowing a youngster the opportunity for FTF. Maybe even SlowPokeMaddy can convince her dad to make the FTF run???? I sure hope she can get FTF!!!!
