A Grave Oversight Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

NCreviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact me (by email through my profile), and assuming it meets the guidelines, I'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

>>>>>>FTF Honors goes to . . . The Hill Walkers!!!!

Bellevue Cemetery is full of history, and was for most of the towns poor and middle class. Hootgibson59 gave this information about the cemetery: "Regarding the history of this cemetery, nearby are the graves of Charles and Elmer Stewart. They were a father and son who were convicted of the murder of a Wilmington Police Officer and a Deputy US Marshal that happened in Brunswick County after a liquor still raid. They were both given the death sentence and were executed on the same day in 1925. Also buried in the cemetery is William Craig who also was a Wilmington Police Officer. He died in the influenza epidemic after World War I. Louis Toomer Moore took many photographs of this cemetery along with Oakdale Cemetery which is a couple of blocks from here. Portions of the movie, "Bastard out of Carolina" were filmed here."

The best time to find this cache is between 8am- 4pm(operating hours). This is a quiet place to walk, but dogs are not allowed. Once you reach the Geocache location. Pay your respects to Ellen S. Farrow. Her husband carefully cut letters from metal and tacked them into place on a wooden slab. The words state simply, "Ellen Farrow. Born Nov. 12, 1844. Died June 11, 1883." This was not a purchased marker from a stonemason, but a tribute of time and artisanship that makes it one of the finest pieces of folk art in the Wilmington cemeteries." (visit link) pg. 4 par.1)
