Geocache Description:

APOLLO, son of Zeus and Leto, was the most handsome of the gods. With his gifts of music, prophecy, and poetry, he had many loves, and fathered many children. But he could not win the heart of Daphne, the wood nymph, child of the river god Peneus, who fled at the sight of him, and was transformed to a bay laurel tree rather than accept his embrace. To this day, the leaves of the bay laurel, tended with love by the heartstruck Apollo, remain always green, never to wilt or decay.

Apollo is the companion to Helios, the sun god, who drives the Sun across the heavens in his chariot with four horses. In modern times, Apollo's name was used by the American space program (1963-1972) that brought men to the moon.

Find Apollo's cache on a sunny glade, filled with poems and tunes to recall his timeless charm.

Team El Fartero presents this tribute to the mythological deities of the ancient world. They may make poor role models, but their stories are never dull and will never grow old. Take the journey and discover the Spirits that may still lurk in the moonlit wilderness, or if not there, at your local Cinema chain!

The Olympic Odyssey consists of 12 caches, each individually crafted and stocked in tribute to their divine inspiration. It is the product of many weeks of planning and preparation, and will bring an afternoon of surprise and adventure to the geocacher who seeks them. Ten of them contain a coordinate which will lead you to the Mount Olympus final, where the gods have prepared a fitting cornocopia to reward your valor and heroism.

Completion of the series will take about 5 hours, and requires 5 miles of hiking, with some climbing and bushwhacking. Start your journey at the posted Parking Coordinates, where you can enjoy a picnic before beginning your quest.
