... but while you are here, check out the California State Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 11 Office. The mission of Caltrans is to improve mobility across the state. In this capacity, Caltrans manages the state highway system (which includes the California Freeway and Expressway System) and is actively involved with public transportation systems throughout the state.
The San Diego District Office complex, opened in 2006, is architecturally interesting with a front entry which includes a stylized cloverleaf interchange motif in the plaza pavement as well as the front gate. Large steel columns support a lattice of solar-cells high above the interior courtyard. Towards the rear of the courtyard hangs a large wooden sculpture especially commissioned for this space.

*** Update 07/02/14: Cache location was compromised by demolition at GZ. Container replaced with a temporary micro container -- a hanging black bison. Size and hint changed accordingly. I enjoyed keeping the cache stocked with Caltrans swag, so hopefully I can bring a larger container back after construction has completed. ***
