Welcome to Connor Lake Dog Park - a year-round off-leash dog park. It's surprisingly popular with moose as well as dogs, so keep your eyes up and looking around as you seek the park's plentiful bounty of caches large and small. We 'power walk' our spoos here at a 3.5mph pace to exercise owner and standard poodle alike, as often as 3 days a week winter and summer.
SPOO is affectionate owner-shortspeak for 'standard poodle' - the original 'big dog' poodle variety which measures more than 15" tall at the shoulder. They're active dogs who enjoy a good run several times weekly. The NorthWes household is home to Kona and Aero - two of the smartest and most affectionate dogs we've ever met. Aero has cached from the very first day she's been in our household (with a Moun10bike geocoin find to her credit), while Kona was out caching within a week of joining our family.
This little bison is perched in a birch 6' off the ground, about a .9 mile walk from the parking lot, at our turnaround point for a evening's walk. The trail traverses an Alaskan black spruce 'bog', with terrific views to the Chugach Range once you're past the midway point. There are more than a half-dozen caches within a hundred feet of the main built-up trail transecting the park from NW to SE. They range in size from bisons to an extra-large 40mm ammo can hide. Another half-dozen caches are found on the park's side trails (Tip: they're marked on the free NorthWest Trails map downloadable to your GPS from Switchbacks.com), and one of the city's first night caches winds its way through the parklands here too.
