This cache is over 50 metres beyond the Falls viewing point. It is along on the flat part of the track you would take if you were to climb to the top of the Falls.
The Tarawera Falls are the most spectacular falls in the Bay of Plenty.
The Tarawera River plunges 65 metres down a sheer cliff face before tumbling down bush lined rapids.
Vehicle access to Tarawera Falls and Outlet is along forest roads, which requires an access permit, costing $5.00 per vehicle.
Directions and Permits are available from the Kawerau Information Centre on Plunket Street, Kawerau, open each day between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm.
Remember to have head lights on since there are logging trucks and hunters in the forest.
There is none or limited cell phone coverage in the forest
Please note that due to fallen trees across the track and some rough patches that have occurred, it has been very difficult for wheelchairs ;though strollers would be easier to lift over.
