Geocache Description:

A driveby in Stockport's own Peak District

It is easy to bypass this feature and not realise its remarkable significance. It was formed as the glaciers melted at the end of the last ice age 15000 years ago; when then ice was all gone there was no surface water left to drain away, so the valley is dry.

Don't take this sign too literally as you leave the Glossop Road!

There is good parking near GZ, a rare commodity in this area, making an ideal start for an easy walk to Yendela's 'Robin Hood's Picking Rods' cache and beyond. Birds to be seen on the walk round here in Summer are the increasingly rare moorland/farmland, species, Skylark, Curlew, Lapwing, and Common Snipe, and if you are lucky you might hear the Snipe drumming. Plenty of Meadow Pipits still, Moorhen on the ponds and Raven above the Edge, and Little Owl. Sadly the breeding Whinchat and Wheatear are only found on passage, but Stonechat, Whitethroat and Grasshopper Warbler have not been unknown in recent years.

Congratulations to 68topcat for FTF, in spite of having a man in to fix her boiler!!
