Geocache Description:

This cache was placed by Nikki Scowens to comemorate her daughter in law taking place in the Burghley race for life.

Burghley gardens and parkland were largely designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century with sweeping vistas down to the spires of Stamford with the backdrop of the House. The park is open all year round from 8am to 8pm or dusk if earlier, and admission is free to all (please note the park may be closed occasionally for events or deer management). There is a partial park closure in place from 3rd August to 18th September during the build up and break down of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. Dogs are allowed in the park as long as they are kept on a lead to protect the deer herd. Dogs are not allowed in the gardens. Burghley was built for Sir William Cecil, later 1st Baron Burghley, who was Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1558 and 1587 and modelled on the privy lodgings of Richmond Palace. It was subsequently the residence of his descendants, the earls and, since 1801, marquesses of Exeter. Since 1961 it has been owned by a charitable trust established by the family.
There are good paths to within 300 ft of the cache. Leave the path at N.52.38.773 W000.27.818 and you will find your way through to the cache.
