One of two caches located near the Longmoor Rifle Ranges.
Please Note: This geocache is located outside the designated range danger area. It is not necessary to access the danger area which is bounded by a fence and marked by red flags at intervals. The paths around the danger area are accessible to the public and are commonly used by walkers, cyclist and riders, but under no circumstances should you enter the danger area when the red flags are flying.
Longmoor No1 Range is a military range within the Longmoor training area, used principally for military small arms training and was built during the Great War. It even had its own railway station on the Longmoor Military Railway. Shooting is conducted at 100 yard intervals from 100 to 600 yards under strictly controlled conditions to ensure safety of personnel and others.
Shooting is a disciplined, challenging sport that requires great technique and mental robustness above physical strength, but is one that men and women, young and old, able bodied and disabled can compete on equal terms.
As well as the ranges, you can enjoy the lovely heathland. The paths are wide and flat and provide easy walking or cycling terrain. However, to reach the cache you will need to go off the path into woodland.
