This letterbox hybrid is part of a series of caches celebrating the history of railroads in the Hudson Valley. This cache is for the Wallkill Valley Railroad.
The Wallkill Valley Railroad existed from 1866 when it was founded, until 1977 when all service ceased. It ran from Kingston, NY to Montgomery, NY. The line served both passenger and freight trains with incredible views of the Shawangunk Mountains as it made its way through several small towns along the way. There were stations in Kingston, Binnewater, Rosendale, New Paltz, Gardiner, Wallkill, Walden, and Montgomery. After its initial run, the railroad was owned by the West Shore, New York Central, and eventually Conrail railroads. The line became unprofitable and was abandoned in 1977.
Inside this cache is a handmade stamp and tokens that are specific to this letterbox hybrid. You don't have to have a stamp of your own to claim the find, just log it as you would any other regular cache. Feel free to use the stamp in the cache but please return it and the ink pad to the bag for others to use. Also, please take only one token as they take a while to make. I hope you enjoy the series.
