Crofton
Crofton was named after Henry Croft, manager of Lenora, Mt. Sicker Copper Mining Company and brother-in-law to James Dunsmuir. Croft had bought land in Osborne Bay to build a smelter, and in 1902 a village was built to house the men who were working at the smelter. Unfortuantely Croft sold the smelter to Britannia Mine in 1906 and the smelter closed in 1908. When Henry Croft died in 1917, the town Crofton was struggling to survive. It wasn't until 1956 that Fletcher Challenge started construction on the pulp and paper mill giving the town stability.
