A skid mark is an elongated stain that results from rubbing an object onto a surface. These marks can occur in several different surfaces. You can usually spot them on the road, which are created by car tires.

When a vehicle wheel suddenly stops rolling or suddenly spins, the tires create skid marks on the road. Generally, these marks are rubber deposits that are created due to the friction of the rubber tires against the road surface. In forensic science and forensic engineering, skid marks are an important aspect to trace evidences of minimum to maximum vehicular speed prior to the impact or incident. Skid marks on the road are classified into two types: acceleration mark and braking mark. These marks can uncover many forensic clues that can help to solve crimes and road mishaps.

We should all be careful not to produce skid marks as they are generally a sign of an unpleasant accident.
