This microwave tower picks up the waves and is the telephone service to Carson. Before this tower, the phone service was on poles that came out of Taos and think that line was built in 1914 when the railroad depot at Taos Junction was built (1/2 mile South of this location where Maria's Cafe was located). Taos Junction became history after the D & R G Railroad took out the Chili line tracks in 1941 that ran from Alamosa, CO to Santa Fe, NM. You can still see the grade where the train tracks were along the East side of the highway.
