Als Findling oder erratischen Block bezeichnen Geologen Gesteinsblöcke, die während der Eiszeit vom Gletschereis über weite Strecken transportiert und schließlich an einem neuen Standort zurückgelassen wurden. Auch dieser erratische Block im Ellhofener Moos hat eine lange Reise hinter sich, da er ursprünglich aus einem Bergmassiv in Liechtenstein stammt. Während der letzten Eiszeit stürzte der mächtige Hauptdolomitblock bei einem Bergsturz auf den Rheingletscher und reiste auf dessen Rücken bis zum heutigen Fundort. Ursprünglich hatte er mit einem Volumen vom 3000 – 4000 m3 (entspricht einem 4-stöckigem Wohnhaus) gewaltige Ausmaße und war einer der größten Eiszeitfindlinge Mitteleuropas. Heute jedoch sind nur noch Reste des erratischen Blocks vorhanden, da er im 19. Jahrhundert als Kalksteinbruch und als Baumaterial für 2 Eisenbahnbrücken diente und mittlerweile mehr einem Krater als einem Findling ähnelt. Seit 1991 stehen die Überreste des Erratischen Blocks als Naturdenkmal unter Schutz.

Geologists call rock blocks which were transported during the ice age by the glacier ice about wide distances and were left finally behind in a new location erratic blocks or erratic boulders. This erratic block in the Ellhofener Moos also has a long trip behind itself, because he originally comes from a mountain massif in Liechtenstein. During the last ice age the mighty dolomite block fell with a landslip on the Rhineglacier and travelled on his back up to the today's site. Originally he had, with a volume from the in 3000 – in 4000 m3(corresponds to dwelling house with 4 floors), immense magnitudes and was one of the biggest ice age boulders of Central Europe. Today, nevertheless, only rests of the erratic block exist, because in the 19th century he served as a limestone break and as a building material for 2 railway bridges and meanwhile resembles more a crater than an erratic block. Since 1991 the remains of the erratic block are under protection as a natural monument.
