In the early 1900's this was a regular Dairy farm. The tan barn that is located just next to the old parking lot is the original farm barn, in the 1980's the Department of Fish and Game renovated the barn, and they still use it today to store equipment, though they now access it from the gated gravel road just west of the parking lot.
When Ne Cherry Valley Road was built around 1910 there was a problem. The road was to run along the edge of the Valley which isolated the barn on the opposite side of the road from the fields. To solve this the county built a bridge over the top of the road, which enabled the farmer to move his cows from the field to the barn and visa versa. The farm closed in the 1940's and at some point after that the land was acquired by the department of Fish and Game. The Cow bridge remained over the road unused until the late 1950's when a tall loaded logging truck snagged the bridge. While the truck did not take the bridge out it was severely damaged and subsequently removed. To this day, in the fall if you look in front of the barn, there is a big concrete foundation, which was for the bridge.
The Parking area was built by the Department of Fish and Game to serve as the parking lot for the game farm acrossed the street. At one time there was a information board and pit toilets. On the other side of the barn toward Duvall use to be the caretaker house for the game farm, latter the house was abandoned and a trailer moved on sight. Sometime in the early 90's the caretaker was eliminated, and both the house and trailer abandoned, and eventually the trailer and house were torn down. I'm not sure why but in the late 1990's the parking lot was barricaded off, and the parking lot was relocated to the other end of the Game Farm on 203. It is a dirt / gravel area with no facilities. And as of October of 2013 there are now posted large no trespassing / no parking signs, so visiting the barn / parking area is no longer possible.
Update: 10-16-2013. I have had to move the cache after it had been in play for only a few months because the area that it was in is now off limits, so the cache has been relocated just slightly east of the game farm. The bad news is you don't get to see as much of the old game farm from the new location, the good news is that I have been able to increase the size to a regular! While most of the caches I own are regulars this is the first time I have placed this type of cache container, this is a type I have always wanted to put out and now is the time!
Congratulations goes to Team GlacierGlider for the FTF.
