Geocache Description:

camo'd bison tube. good parking. do not have to cross fence

The farming community of Carson was homesteaded around 1907. A graveyard site was selected by W. K. Shupe on his own property when it became necessary to bury his little Daughter, Elizabeth, and she was buried May 4th, 1917. This was the first burial to take place in the Carson community. My Grandfather, Charles W. Brixey, died on July 10th, 1922 and was buried there on July 12th, 1922. The cemetery was dedicated on that day. My Mother, Martha Jane Brixey Boxberger (1998) and Father Henry Boxberger (1982) are also buried in this cemetery. The cemetery is still used by the community. It is on private land and behind a closed gate and located over a mile NW of here. Across the road, and NW of this location, there is another small cemetery and you can see a post and some markers. Parking here is not good. Directly North, across the road, is the location where my grandparents had their homestead in 1921 and where my Grandfather passed away following a bout with pneumonia. The place was sold about 1925 and my Grandmother, along with my Mother and her Sister moved to Taos.

You can not see the main cemetery from this location but Spirit Caches are a series placed at or near NM cemeteries in hopes of paying respect to the pioneer ancestors having "gone" on before us, and, possibly picking up a bit of history of the area
