Tuen Mun, means Garrison Gate. In the Tang Dynasty, Tuen Mun Tsang 屯門鎮 is a navy town which lies across Deep Bay. A major clan, To 陶, established a market town, it is now Tuen Mun Kau Hui.
Tuen Mun remained an important town of coastal defence until 1898. When the British took over the New Territories and renamed as Castle Peak. Tuen Mun, however, continued to be used by those living in the area. In 1972, was officially changed back to Tuen Mun.
