Geocache Description:

Please DO NOT do at night as we do not want to worry the remote residents. Please park considerately by the metal field gate at the roadside pull in with a lovely view of the lake. You are looking for a medium-sized pot container able to take small swaps and trackables. Please bring your own pen to sign the logbook. Please take all necessary precautions when on the road.

This series offers you the opportunity to see and explore the beautiful mountain wilderness of Mid Wales known as the Elan Valley. You can also add our Dam It series to your journey and find other caches along these routes. Look out for the old road signs still surviving with the wording 'Mountain Road' on them. This cache will either be at the start or the end of our Elan Mountain Road Series depending on which direction you are travelling... If it is the end, we hope you enjoyed your journey and hope you will return another day to explore more of this beautiful area:) If it is the start of your journey, you will be entering the Elan Valley Estate over the cattle grid, please watch out for sheep and their lambs who often wander onto the roads without warning!! During the summer the Elan Valley gets alot of visitor traffic, especially cyclists and motorbikes, so please drive carefully. The Elan Estate comprises the catchments of the rivers Elan and Claerwen...more than 70 square miles of rugged Welsh countryside. Here at our Elan Mt Rd series No 12 you can look down over Gwynllyn lake and up the valley to the cascade of waterfalls running down the hillside near the road. Sadly in 2020, the old hollow Ash was brought down by strong winds. It had beautiful bark patterns which are still visible on what's left of the trunk by the gate...and it's still trying to grow! Also, keep a lookout for Red Kites flying in the area. We would like to give grateful thanks to the Elan Valley Trust and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water for their kind permission to allow us to place this series of caches on their land. Please see www.elanvalley.org.uk for further information about the Elan Valley and events held during the year.
