A cache in the grounds of the former Saxondale Hospital, now a much sought after village called Upper Saxondale. This is the re-incarnation of my previous cache, Asylum Seeker which was hidden nearby in the woodland walk.
Upper Saxondale was developed on the site of the former Saxondale Psychiactric Hospital during the 90s. The estate is surrounded by parkland, including a recently planted woodland walk.
Upper Saxondale is a designated conservation area of around 30 hectares. The conservation area covers the entire former Saxondale Hospital site and includes extensive semi-wooded grounds, parkland landscape and many ancient trees.
The former Saxondale Hospital was built in 1902 and was the county asylum for Nottinghamshire. It was used as a military hospital during World War I to care for shell-shocked soldiers.
The cache is best accessed by parking near the top of Serpentine Close or on Buckingham Drive.
There is a kiddie's play park nearby, tennis courts, bowling green and refreshments.
The cache is a small lock and lock box in a camo bag.
