This cache is located on Saratoga Spa State Park’s Wetlands Overlook Trail. This marshy trail is home to many native and invasive plants and animals. Once you reach the overlook you can walk out and see an abundant, tall reed growing in and around the water called Phragmites (frag-might-eez). This species is invasive but many of the species which live within it, such as blackbirds, are native to New York. Can you hear the red-winged blackbirds sounding out the “okalee” call to warn off other males?

The theme of this cache is the bottling plant which is located within Spa Park. Built in 1935 as a part of the Spa complex, it bottled four different kinds of water for over 40 years. Nowadays, the building is leased to the Saratoga Automobile Museum. Three of the waters which were bottled were mineral waters (Coesa, Hathorn and Geyser) and the fourth was a fresh spring water (State Seal). For adventurous souls, three of the four springs are still flowing and free to the public in Spa Park. State Seal and Geyser are located across from the former bottling plant/Automobile Museum under a pavilion (access this by using the non-tollbooth Route 50 entrance). Hathorn (which some locals think is the fountain of youth) is located by the parking lot where you will park to access this cache. If you have time, swing by the Automobile Museum to see a world-class display of cars old and new.
