Cache is not at the posted coordinates – they are for the tower itself.
Once upon a time the Niagara skyline was entirely made up of two giant observation towers that soared over everything. The Skylon still holds some grandeur, but its sister tower has been reduced to complete insignificance by the behemoth hotels flanking it from all sides.
The Tower Hotel has only recently held that name. Due to numerous bankruptcies, the building has gone through a variety of name changes since it was opened in 1962. Aside from being known as the more general Heritage Tower (1969) and Royal Inn Tower (1971), the building held 3 different names that represented company sponsorships. If you grew up here, you probably do not even have to research this! Think back…. what was it called when it first opened? What was it in the late 70s? What name did it hold for the longest time in the mid 80s to late 90s?
In this puzzle cache, you need to find the three sponsorship names that it once held. You only need the first letter of each name. Use the alphabet-numerical equivalent of this letter to visit three locations in the nearby vicinity of the tower. At each of these locations you will find an industrial tag (photos below) with numbers that you will need for the final formula. This sounds complicated but it isn’t… I’m just not typing clearly. Let’s do it this way:
Location 1
This stage has gone missing - therefore, until it can be replaced, there is no need to do this portion of the puzzle. Please use A = 4, B = 7 and skip this first portion for the time being.
What was the tower called when it opened in 1962? Take the first letter of the name and count what letter of the alphabet it is. It is a 2-digit number. Fill the two digits into both places in the following coordinate and go there (the same two digits into BOTH spots, not one in the first and the other in the second).
N 43 4.7__ W 079 5.0__
Please note that all three locations are PNGs if you do not feel like walking. At this location you will find a parking spot. A few metres west you will find the following plaque affixed to a piece of industrial equipment. Write down the numbers represented by A and B.
Location 2
What was the tower called from 1973 to 1984? Take the first letter of the name and count what letter of the alphabet it is. It is a 2-digit number. Fill the two digits into both places in the following coordinate and go there (again, the same two digits into both spots).
N 43 4.8__ W 079 5.0__
At this location you will find the following plaque affixed to a piece of industrial equipment. Write down the numbers represented by C and D.
Location 3
What was the tower called from 1984 to 2007? (If you find a two-word name that starts with K, use the second word only. That’s what it was more commonly referred to). Take the first letter of the name and count what letter of the alphabet it is. It is a 2-digit number. Fill the two digits into both places in the following coordinate and go there (again, both digits in both spots).
N 43 4.6__ W 079 5.0__
At this location you will find the following plaque affixed to a piece of industrial equipment. Write down the numbers represented by E and F.
