One of a series of 12 from Nibbin and the Rascal our 9 year old - based upon a splendid circular walking/cycling route from the centre of Abingdon on Thames. The series is the Rascal’s River Ramble – RRR – it is just over 6 miles long and is suitable for off road bike or on foot – multi - terrain buggies will cope.
The walk/ride starts on at the Rye Farm car park in Abingdon on Thames. Struggled here for a GZ – several earlier caches have gone on their travels - now it is out of flood water reach!- to the left of clearing at river bend - round the back - dont fall in!
The walk starts off travelling northwards ‘Andersey Island 4’ cache, along the road signed to Kingfisher Barn, on the way to the river bank. The ‘Thames Towpath Walk cache’ will appear close – but it is on the other side of the river! After a section along the river bank the walk follows the railway line up a hill past the motocross tracks – very noisy if they are having a meeting. At the bridge from where you can see the Culham industrial site, you turn right along Thames lane – an unmade up road, to start with, to the European School in Culham. A short section along the road to allow you to safely cross left at the traffic lights by the hostelry – 4 miles from the start point – take care of junior cachers here. A short walk/ride takes you back to the river Thames – turn right onto the river bank close to the lock and follow river cutting upsteam. From here it is about 2 miles back to the car park along the river bank - passing a couple of caches as you go.
This is one of a series of that like our ninotori series in North Abingdon it is thorns, ivy and stingers free! No clues are offered but we do advise reading the instructions carefully. If too many DNFs arise we will give a hint.
