A Three Hour Tour: Gilligan Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mr. 0: I had been trying to adopt the series out. Unfortunately we've been unable to get decent enough water levels to get out to replace the caches, and I'm not sure that it's going to get much better in the near future. Archiving per the request below.

Geocache Description:

This first cache in the series is an ammo can located on a relatively large island. There is a lot of poison ivy, some nettles, and tons of mosquitoes

A Three Hour Tour is a series of 7 caches located along the Scioto River. These caches are only accessible by small watercraft such as a canoe or kayak.

This series may take much longer than 3 hours, so plan accordingly. It took me almost 6 hours to place the caches. I strongly suggest taking water, and maybe some snacks...or a full lunch. A picnic on the river is always fun! You’ll probably want some sunscreen, and bug repellent too. Also, make sure any electronics, such as cell phones, are in waterproof containers that either float, or are attached to your boat.

The suggested starting point is at the Hoskins Rd. bridge near N40° 25.162 W083° 11.850 parking can be found near the river gauge on the south side of the bridge along the western bank (river right) of the river. The suggested end is at the Warrensburg Rd. bridge near N 40° 18.364 W 083° 10.076. This is about 9.5 miles downstream from the start. Parking can be found at the Warrensburg United Methodist Church. The bank directly behind the church is kind of steep and muddy. I suggest taking out right at the north side of the bridge along the eastern bank (river left) of the river. Then walking over the bridge to get your vehicle.

Please use caution. This river is typically fairly shallow, and slow moving, however there are several areas of faster moving riffles. Please do not attempt during periods of flooding. Current river conditions can be found at NOAA.gov. This station is the station you will see at the put in coordinates.

Between here and the start point you will pass an active Bald Eagle nest, so keep an eye out. While placing the cache I saw two different Bald Eagles flying around the area.

I should also add, there's a possibility that you may see a couple of caches along the way before this one. I had placed a few that I decided for various reasons not to list. So they're out there until I get around to removing them.
