I've had it in my mind to paddle this infamous stretch of river for quite sometime. My twelve year old Spanky2000 and I decided today was the day. This stretch of river has one of the most unique paddling experiences you will ever find. You can paddle through a 1/4 mile long mine. For the less adventurous (and probably more sensible) you can paddle around it. But I must say the ride through it is one of the coolest things I have ever done.

For the most part, the river is easily navigable with some minor rapids. We did flip the kayak on the first set of rapids but my excuse (and I am sticking to it) is that we were a little warm. We placed seven caches and paddled from the Castleberry Bridge Rd. Bridge to the Hwy 136 bridge in three and a half hours. If the water levels are low the river on this stretch becomes a little scrapey shallow. I believe this is a pretty good river for novices except for the mine. The camoed matchstick caches should be fairly easy to find but the area played havoc with the GPSr. The hints provided will first make sure you are in the correct area and then the encrypted will be a total spoiler in case you have trouble. If your coordinates vary, feel free to post them in your log. Make sure to bring your own pen. Have Fun!!
