Este trilho inicia-se na estrada regional E.R.101, junto à Ribeira da Cruz, que separa o concelho do Porto Moniz do Concelho da Calheta. A partir da estrada tem de subir uma vereda até atingir a Levada do Moinho. Caminhado no sentido contrário ao das águas poderá visitar uma das nascentes que abastece esta levada e se seguir sempre vai encontrar a origem da nascente da Levada do Moinho.
