Geocache Description:

The cache is a 35mm film canister containing a log book only - please bring your own pen. It has room for small trackables. The cache is fully accessible from the pavement itself - there is absolutely no need to enter the grounds of any buildings - including The Priory - PLEASE SEARCH FROM THE STREET/PAVEMENT ONLY.

This Cache is located outside the former Priory of St Wilfrid (also known as the Hostel of the Resurrection). The Cache is within a couple of minutes walk from the University of Leeds main campus and is located on Springfield Mount. The street is a popular parking place for staff and students of the University and is therefore extremely busy between 8am and 6pm, especially during term time. This cache is therefore best attempted in the evening or at weekends - during which the no-through-road is quiet and on-street parking is usually available.

This cache has been sited to draw your attention to the Priory of St Wilfrid, a largely unknown Grade II* listed building. The Priory was built between 1907 and 1928. Designed by Temple Moor, an influential church architect, in an Edwardian Gothic style, the Priory was modeled on the design of an Oxbridge College and built around a quandrangle (not visible from the street).

The building was designed as a hall of residence for students studying at the university prior to undertaking a 2 year theology course at Mirfield to equip them for ministry in the Church of England. In 1976 the building was sold to the University and used to house the School of Continuing education. The building has also functioned as an Adult Education Centre. In 2008 the building was fully refurbished and extended and once again provides accommodation for students, housing 73 studio flats.

Please ensure that you leave the cache well hidden - pushed fully into its hiding place so that it is not visible to passing pedestrians.
