This cache has been placed for the CARL4 event. This cache was released to the public on Thursday, June 14. The cache should not be located prior to 6 p.m. Friday, June 15. The caches for the CARL4 event are released early so that the geocaching community has an opportunity to plan their routes prior to the event start
In the 50's and later decades the request, "I'll have a Pil" was often heard in establishments serving liquor. Pil was for a well known brand of beer, Pilsner, which was brewed in Lethbridge.
Built in 1901 by Smith Bros. and Wilson, Alberta Brewing and Malting operated on this site from 1901 to 1904. The name then changed to Lethbridge Brewing and Malting. From the beginning Fritz Sick was in charge of the operation with Emil Sick becoming involved in 1926. The Sick Family also operated breweries in the Seattle, Washington area and produced the famous Rainier brand.
The brewery was known as Sicks Lethbridge Brewery Ltd. from 1944 to 1958. From 1958 to 1989 it was named Molson's Brewery and was closed in 1989. The brewery was torn down in 1991.
Along with the brewery the Brewery Hill gardens were well known and became a tourist destination sight. The Christmas displays have been viewed by residents and visitors for many years. The City of Lethbridge now maintains the gardens.
I can't believe I now live on the site of the Brewery!
The cache contains log book, pencil and swag.
