Israel Trail South 2 North.
This cache is part of a series of caches placed over the course of a month long trek starting at Eilat and ending at the Kotel in Jerusalem. During each day of hiking, I hid a cache at some point along the trail. Please read the following warnings carefully, before proceeding to look for the caches in this series.
(For more information about the trail, please refer to the web page)
• The northern part of the Israel Trail includes some very challenging hiking. As a rule, these hikes and caches are intended for experienced hikers only.
• The Negev, like most deserts, is a very unforgiving environment. Make sure you are well equipped for the task you are getting into. For example, you should have about 1 liter of water for every 2.5 Km you are planning to walk. Make sure you have an up to date map of the area, and plan the hike so that you have plenty of time to finish before sunset.
• The Negev is an amazing place to visit but the local fauna is not always very accommodating. When reaching for caches, be very cautious of snakes and scorpions that might be sharing the shade with the cache.
• I do not recommend this trail during the months of June to September unless the forecast is especially cool.
• Because the caches and contents in the series were carried for hundreds of kilometers, they are minimal. All caches include a small to medium plastic container, a log page, a pencil, and usually a few small trinkets. The contents may vary but are usually very basic. I had to leave it to future cachers to add treasures that are more exotic.
• I would like to thank Tomer Noyhouzer , Jonathan Devor And Oran Aviv, for volunteering to assist me in the maintenance this series of caches.
About the cache
This is considered one of the highlight of the Shvil Israel trek. The Karbolet is actually a mountain that is at the ridge of the Big Crater. Karbolet is literally "cock's comb" but probably better translated as a knife's edge. The hiking includes climbing up a very challenging mountain and then hiking across 4 KM of the tip of the mountain ridge. This is a seriously extreme hike. I personally loved it but it is really only for experienced hikers!
The cache is located in a relatively simple part of the path about 1 hour from the beginning of the climb. (Remember I was going from South to East). I chose this spot and not the extreme part of the mountain because you want to be very focused on not falling off the cliff at the other spots….
The cache is located inside a hole on the north side of a huge boulder located in the middle of the path.
The cache is a white jar with a log and a pencil.
